The new policy provides up to $2,000 to support military families’ entrepreneurship.
The 2023 National Defense Authorization Act included a provision that allowed reimbursement for part of the cost of business moving expenses for military spouses who own their own businesses. Entrepreneurial military spouses are often confronted with a labyrinth of state regulations and red tape due to their active-duty mate’s change of station.
Lt. General Kevin Vereen, the Army’s deputy chief of staff for installations, said of military spouses, “We owe it to them to provide any opportunity to not just have a job, but build a fulfilling career.”
The U.S. Army released its updated policy on the reimbursements this month. The U.S. Navy updated its policy in April, and the Air Force and Space Force issued their updates in late 2023. The Marine Corps guidelines are still being developed.
The reimbursement program is effective for orders received on or after December 22, 2023, and will remain in force through the end of 2029.
